Unsatisfactory Results
Consider the cases of unsuccessful results after LASIK that patients can face with.
Unsatisfactory Results

1. Infection and postponed curing: in average common chances to be cornea infected after PRK are about a 0.1 percent and twice less after LASIK. Mainly, this means some uneasiness and a hindrance in remedial, with no long-standing special effects within the next 4 years.

2. Under correction/overcorrection: impossible to foresee how your eye will react to laser surgery, in some cases you can still be in need of corrective lenses after the course of action to acquire good vision, hence a repeated procedure can advance the result.

3. Decline in best-corrected vision: there is a risk that after refractive surgery some patients can feel their improved vision with corrective lenses not as good as it was before the surgery. This can happen in consequence of the irregular tissue exclusion or the development of corneal haze.

4. Surplus corneal haze: appearance of corneal haze is a part of the typical curative process after PRK. Most of the time, it has very little or even no effect on the final vision and can only be seen by doctor’s eye with a help of microscope. Nevertheless there are some cases of extreme haze that interferes with vision; this can often be connected with a supplementary laser treatment. In LASIK surgery the opportunity of considerable haze is much less than in PRK.

 5. Failure: in some patients the effect of refractive surgery is increasingly lost in term of several months. It is similar to under correction, and a re-treatment is often necessary.

6. Aura effect: this optical effect is generally noticed in not bright light. As the pupil grows up a second faded picture is produced by the raw peripheral cornea. For a number of patients who have undergone PRK or LASIK this effect can be confused with night driving.

7. Flap injury or loss – concerning LASIK only: as a replacement for creating a hinged flap of tissue on the central cornea, the whole flap could come away. If this occure it could be replaced after the laser treatment, but here there is a risk that the flap could be hurt or lost.

8. Misshapen flap - in LASIK surgery only: not regular healing of the corneal flap could generate changes in corneal shape and as a result - reduce of best-corrected vision.

9. Partial procedure: malfunction apparatus may call for the congestion of procedure before the finishing point. This factor dominates in LASIK with its higher level of density in spite of PRK.

10Possible problems with an ideal procedure: despite the good results after the procedure, there are effects that can be a root of slight displeasure. Patients of old age shouldn’t expect to have both types of vision: good distance and good near vision in one and the same eye without corrective lenses. A quantity of myopic patients account for their myopia while reading (they take off their glasses or wear a weaker prescription). For such patient to have reading glasses after the myopia is surgically acceptable. The other discussion is the holdup between eye treatments. In case that eyes have been done not simultaneously, they can not t cooperate well together for the period of treatments. In condition a contact lens is not allowed on the unoperated eye, work and driving may be uncomfortable or not possible till the second eye has been treated.
